Apna Ghar provides holistic services and conducts advocacy across immigrant communities in the metro Chicago area to end gender violence. Apna Ghar provides a full range of services to survivors as they begin their journeys of healing and empowerment. Apna Ghar also conducts community education and addresses systemic barriers that immigrant survivors face.
Apna Ghar is seeking a STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT project to formalize their mission statement, adopt a long-term vision, and develop a shared understanding of organizational strategic goals. This will be done through engaging the board in reviewing current organizational information, speaking to key stakeholders, and beginning to craft a long-term vision and plan for growth.
BUILD engages at-risk youth so they can realize their educational and career potential, and provide positive contributions to their communities. BUILD’s programs are designed to meet both the immediate problem of preventing at-risk youth from joining gangs, as well as working with gang-involved youth to develop alternatives to this destructive lifestyle. The service population also includes youth who have come in contact with the justice system to prevent and/or provide alternatives to detention and assist with successful re-entry into their communities.
BUILD is seeking a BOARD DEVELOPMENT project to maximize the performance of their Board of Directors and ensure the Board reflects the diversity of expertise necessary to best support BUILD’s work. This project will involve surveying and interviewing board members, identifing gaps in skills on the board, gauging satisfaction with board performance, and determining opportunities for improvement.
HEALTHY SCHOOLS CAMPAIGN
Healthy Schools Campaign advocates for policies and practices that allow all students, teachers and staff to learn and work in a healthy school environment. HSC is working to make meaningful and sustainable changes in Chicago schools at the individual school and district levels related to healthful school food, nutrition education, physical activity, physical education, health service delivery, environmental health, green infrastructure and environmental stewardship.
Healthy Schools Campaign is seeking a FUNDING STRATEGY project to strengthen its small-donor communications and acquisition strategy. The organization would like to be more successful cultivating small donors (gifts ranging from $10 to $250). The objective of this project would be to provide actionable recommendations for HSC to implement in 2017-18.
ILLINOIS JOINING FORCES
Illinois Joining Forces is a statewide public private network of veteran and military-serving organizations. IJF works to help service members, veterans, and their families identify and marshal resources and services available to them throughout Illinois.
Illinois Joining Forces is seeking a STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT project to establish standard criteria for evaluating partner organizations that provide services to veterans and their families. This project would design a process for evaluating and onboarding new organizations and design a process or procedure for connecting resource providers to IJF that do not otherwise participate in the IJF network.
MAPSCorps trains and mentors youth to produce high-quality data about community assets that can be used to improve the human condition. MAPSCorps’s annual census of data about all the businesses and organizations in a community is used by healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, leaders, entrepreneurs, residents and others for better health, well-being and economic vitality. MAPSCorps partners with local youth employment agencies and community-based organizations to provide a meaningful work experience for youth who produce the data. MAPSCorps students become confident and capable communicators and develop basic job skills. Youth are challenged to apply critical thinking skills to the scientific, health, and civic engagement components of the MAPSCorps experience.
MAPSCorps is seeking a FUNDING STRATEGY project to support the organization’s capacity building efforts as it transitions from the University of Chicago to an independent organization. The deliverables would include developing a matrix of prospective types of donors, refining a case statement, and providing recommendations for cultivation and solicitation.
MetroSquash engages underserved Chicago youth through academic support, squash and wellness, mentoring, enrichment and community service to develop students to their full potential. Using squash, academics, mentoring and life skills development, MetroSquash supports students in finding and graduating from their post-secondary pursuit. This program starts as early as 5th grade and can span a student’s entire adolescence. MetroSquash fosters a strong community of support and relationships that blossom over a period of years.
MetroSquash is seeking a STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT project to standardize programming and set clear expectations for staff and stakeholders around the organization’s mission after a recent expansion that included building a new squash facility.
THE RESURRECTION PROJECT
The Resurrection Project’s mission is to build relationships and challenge individuals to act on their values by creating community ownership, building community wealth, and serving as stewards of community assets. Services include creating financial empowerment through financial education, providing real estate development and property management services, and empowering individuals to be committed stakeholders in their communities through leadership development, civic engagement, and more. TRP has set a new goal to increase revenue from earned income ventures. To achieve the goal, TRP will be investing in new opportunities, including the development of a Social Enterprise Fund, that benefit the communities that TRP serves.
The Resurrection Project is seeking a STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT project to establish a system for evaluating current and new earned income ventures. TRP is requesting a standard process for evaluating earned income initiatives that can be used across the organization. This process would include identifying standard metrics to evaluate new ventures and help prioritize investment opportunities.
