How Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities Grew Stronger with Compass Pro Bono

Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities (BBBS TC) connects young people with caring adult mentors to unlock their potential. Still, as demand grew, the team needed a more strategic, scalable way to reach new volunteers and evaluate community partnerships. They turned to Compass Pro Bono to align their outreach with their mission and to focus scarce staff time where it would matter most.

Compass recruited, organized, vetted and trained a skilled volunteer team to work shoulder-to-shoulder with BBBS TC. The team conducted a market scan and built a practical decision screen to assess potential partners, while also developing strategic marketing approaches to reach new volunteer audiences. Along the way, Compass supplied usable tools, templates, coaching, feedback loops and created alignment around a future-focused mindset: clear choices about partnerships, consistent messaging, and repeatable outreach practices that staff can keep using long after the project ends.

Princess Awa-Ada Kisob, Vice President of Programs, shares that thanks to Compass, BBBS TC now makes faster, better-informed partnership decisions and runs more targeted volunteer recruitment, saving time and improving the quality of outreach. Communications are more consistent, proposals and campaigns are easier to execute, and staff feel confident applying the new tools and decision criteria across programs.

With these systems in place, Princess shares that the organization is positioned to grow their mentor-mentee matches, deepen community partnerships, and sustain impact over the long term, precisely the kind of durable capacity a funder’s investment aims to unlock.

“Working with Compass didn’t just give us new tools, it helped us see how powerful our story already is. Now we feel like we can reach further without compromising our mission.”
