Bethany Rubin Henderson

Bethany Rubin Henderson is an award-winning social impact leader with more than two decades of experience turning vision into measurable impact. As CEO of Compass Pro Bono, she is leading the organization through a period of growth and evolution: sharpening its strategic vision and expanding its operations and impact across multiple new cities.

Before joining Compass Pro Bono, Bethany led an international youth development nonprofit, where she aligned 11 independent affiliates around a shared vision that made the organization, America SCORES, a globally recognized leader working at the intersection of youth sports, arts, and social impact. At the same time, she revitalized DC SCORES, America SCORES’ founding affiliate, transforming it from one of DC’s best-kept secrets into the community partner of choice. Under her leadership, DC SCORES expanded programming to thousands of students, forged numerous, lasting cross-sector partnerships, and became a trusted voice in the local public discourse on youth development.

Expanding equity of opportunity and civic engagement have been defining threads throughout Bethany’s career. Previously, Bethany served in the Obama Administration as a White House Fellow, where she helped shape the early framework for My Brother’s Keeper; founded City Hall Fellows, a national service corps for local governments; and represented special education students as a litigator at Quinn Emanuel.

Bethany’s leadership has been recognized with honors, including the Center for Nonprofit Advancement’s Excellence in Chief Executive Leadership Award, the Washington Business Journal’s Nonprofit Director of the Year, and an Echoing Green Fellowship. She teaches social entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland’s Do Good Institute and serves on the faculty of the Sports & Entertainment Impact Collective.

Bethany holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and both an M.A. and B.A. in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She, her husband, and their teenage daughters, enjoy traveling the world, camping across the country, and creating opportunities for public art.
