Monica Villarreal

Monica Villarreal is the Communications Coordinator at Compass Pro Bono, where she has been part of the team since 2025. She manages Compass’s social media channels and posting cadence, designs graphics and communications materials, produces and schedules monthly newsletters for volunteers and nonprofit partners, and keeps the organization’s website current through regular updates. With strengths in visual storytelling, digital content strategy, and audience-focused communications, Monica helps translate Compass’s mission and work into clear, engaging content that builds visibility and deepens connection with the community.

Monica was first introduced to Compass as a Social Media and Communications Intern in the summer of 2024 and continued supporting key projects while completing her undergraduate studies. In that role, she helped pilot and refine Compass’s volunteer training program, streamlined the production process for annual impact reporting, and developed polished, consistent materials used across external communications and internal programs.

Monica graduated from the University of Chicago in 2025 with a B.A. with Honors in Psychology and Media Arts and Design, and brings a creative, people-centered lens to her work at Compass. Before joining the team full-time, she gained hands-on leadership experience as Marketing Director and Video Crew Director for a student-run campus organization—building skills in graphic design, video editing, content creation, and event & social media management. She also brings prior nonprofit experience, including work with the Latino Donors Collaborative, and is energized by the opportunity to help mission-driven organizations thrive through pro bono partnership.

Outside of work, Monica is an avid video game and board game enthusiast. When she’s not playing, she’s often baking something new or experimenting in the kitchen as a novice-yet-eager cook.
